Should you try the Carnivore Diet before you die or will it kill you? Part 2/?

Part 2 of a multipart series of an unknown quantity (of parts)...

Just tuned in to this EPIC quest? Here’s a link to part 1

“Michael, your bloods do not indicate any possible underlying health condition or give me any other reason for concern. You are fine to begin your diet experiment, but please; try to eat more fish and less red meat. Maybe just eat a lot of salmon. Yes, Salmon is good”

Noted.

I really like Dr Ken.

Dr Ken is his Western title, not his birth name. I found this out the hard way when trying to book an appointment with him through an online health portal.

‘How smart are you now, A.I.?’

I feel like Dr Ken always has my back. This is possibly because he believes that we share some kind of kindred adventure spirit. Like I'm the doing the sort of whacky stuff Dr Ken would do if he didn't need to be as responsible as being a General Medical Practitioner demands.

I once asked him if my sperm should be tested for fertility:

“Are you trying to have a baby, Michael.”

“Um, no… But I’d like to know whether I could, Dr Ken.”

“But Michael, how will you know if you don’t try?”

“... Point taken, Dr Ken.”

He’s pragmatic. Genial. Deadpan.

He strikes me as the kind of Dr that could have been a drift car tuner or a hydroponics innovator in the weed economy, if his overbearing Asian parents hadn’t pressured him to follow a traditional, lucrative career in Western Medicine.

It just occurred to me that my ‘Dr Ken’ is quite a bit like this ‘Dr Ken’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oFQzvPUzeU

Why was I even getting my ‘bloods done’ with Dr Deadpan? As a condition of embarking upon a 30 day ‘Nose to Tail’ diet, a strict variant of the better known ‘Carnivore Diet’, I’d had the foresight to bake a couple of exit clauses into my experiment:

  1. If, during my weekly check in with Dr Ken, I received any indication that my health was at risk.

  2. If I didn’t turn a corner in energy levels within 14 days from having commenced the experiment, I could pull the pin at any time thereafter.

Please keep in mind that I wasn’t sponsored by a mail order meat company. There were no shady handouts from powerful farming lobby groups in dark alleys - I would have loved that!

Nope.

Just some dude trying to find a sustainable solution to his gut and skin issues whilst also trying to build a profitable, purpose-led start-up and training Muay Thai several times a week and working part-time in ad-hoc jobs to… make ends... meat.

I couldn’t resist writing that. No regrets.

Armed with the surety of good health and boundless enthusiasm; we begin

Be your EPIC
We out. 🙇
